New Mexico Whitetail
I was talking to Stephen the other night and was telling him about a whitetail shed I found this year near where I live while we were hunting pheasant. We have seen HUGE whitetail over the years in the eastern part of the state but have never really paid attention to them. Well now I want to kill a big whitetail. We have seen some that would go 180" or better. For all you whitetail experts, is this a good whitetail??? I would guess him at around 170" if the brow tine wasn't broken. The mass is incredible, hard to tell from the pics but you can see the one pic that I cannot put my fingers around the base. A guy killed a whitetail that went over 200" a few years ago in the unit we hunt mulies in. Also, the place where I found this shed is all private property that we have been pheasant hunting on for years, and nobody else hunts it. The folks said we could deer there also if we want. Should I go after this big boy next year and give my beloved mulie hunting a rest????

I have a hard time telling by those pics, but I don't think he's a 170 class deer. A 170 typical ten is one big deer. That buck is dang nice, but no booner. Should you chase him? Absolutely. He's a toad.

It's definitely a nice deer, but it's hard to tell exactly how big from the pictures. I was thinking the same thing last night after I posted the picture of the dead buck I found, I should have put a coke can or something next to it for reference. I would guess that shed would fall short of Booner territory though.
To get to 170 inches here's an idea what you would probably need on a ten pointer:
Main beams: 23-25 inches long and 7-8 inch base circumferences
G1s (brow tines): 4-6 inches
G2 & G3 tines: 10-12 inches long
G4s: 6-9 inches.

Your right. This thing looks small in the pics. It's ALOT bigger in person. I'll take some quick measurements and post them in a sec.

It looks big, but it's hard to tell how big. When I looked at the pic I posted last night I realized you couldn't really tell if that was a 115 or a 150 inch deer. I should have put a Miller Chill bottle next to it so you guys could REALLY drool over it. (and get a better idea how big the deer was)

Re: New Mexico Whitetail
Main beam - 22 4/8"
Base circumference - 6 7/8"
G1 - 4" (just a guess)
G2 - 9 5/8"
G3 - 10 4/8"
G4 - 5 7/8"
Mass remains pretty close to the same as the base cicumference all the way up through all the circumference measuments.

I would say whack him if you get the chance! Do the math and add some spread and another years worth of growth and you'll come up with a very good scoring buck.

Agreed, he may not have been 170 last year, but this year he should be..... He's a damn good deer Quinton, if you see him or one like him, drop the hammer.
