Here's some info for you guys from a fairly unbiased source about the Mac vs. PC performance, cost, etc.

Please note the PC desktop is MORE expensive, despite having a smaller screen and slower processor. It does have more RAM, but even that isn't enough to overcome the iMac's awesomeness....

Macs more expensive? Think again...

I am looking for it as an alternative if I do upgrade, i need it to be compatible with SW,,Stephen, can you re-send me the logo?
i upgraded to SW 2008 & I see that it should be able to open AI files as well as PSD files. I would like to try it.

How QUIET are the keyboards Stephen? My wife hates when I type on our Logitech Wireless keyboard. WAY too loud when she's trying to sleep.

I have a new iMac and it has the thin aluminum keyboards that are FANTASTIC. The keys are like a laptop's, but spaced out a bit more so you get the same ergonomics as any other keyboard. As far as quiet, they are pretty darn quiet. maybe a tad louder than a notebook's, but I hardly notice since I'm usually listening to music anyway.

Juan, if you look, the Mac is actually faster running Vista than the PC was. I'll resend the logo as an AI when I have a chance.

Brad, well, like I said, if you look, in the case of the Desktop all-in-ones, the PC was actually MORE expensive. The Notebooks were the same price, but the Mac outperformed...

So, if I buy a MAC I can set it up to operate just like my PC does?

Yes, you can run Windows on it. You install Vista and then you have the option at startup of booting into Mac OS or Vista.

or you can for about $50 purchase the card and run parallels so that both systems run simultaneously and you will never know the difference. When I get the next laptop next month that is what I am going to do.

Gobble, yup Parallels is another excellent choice, as long as you're comfortable with things at a level where dual-running isn't an issue. The downside of running bot hat the same time is the memory drain, from what I've heard. You pay in performance.

What did you buy?

haven't yet. waiting until May as the student rep tells me that in May apple is going to offer a itouch as a bonus. I am thinking Macbook Pro with 15" screen. I don't believe with that much memory and processor speed I will see a drain.

Gobble...

As long as you're not running extremely intensive programs, I suppose you'll be alright. Let me know what you get!
