Does anyone have the name of a external frame pack that they like? I have a lead on a cabelas guide pack for $75 and it looks heavy to me. 9+ pounds for a 5000 cu in pack.

Re: Packs
Q recommends Kelty or REI (especially used on eBay)
I tried on a Kelty Trekker 3950 and it was really light and comfy, but too expensive for me.
I'll either buy a Kelty 3950 off eBay or one of these, as the price is nice (especially since I have limited need for a pack) and Q gave his blessing:

https://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=14753288&memberId=12500226&catalogId=40000000226
Both of these are about 5 pounds dry weight.

Re: Packs
All the packs Stephen mentioned are good packs. Remember to try and stay at or above 4000 cu in. or larger if you can. The bigger the better. Rremeber we'll on the mountain all day, so we'll have food/drink/supplies in the packs so if you kill something your gonna need plenty of space for meat.

Re: Packs
Forget lightweight. When you have 100lbs of sheep on your back and you look down and see camp at the base of the mountain miles away and realize that if you fall with that pack on your likely to break every bone in your body, you'll just be wishing you never went sheep hunting in the first place.

your choice, but seems gun will be the prefered weapon here as they are long shots.

Re: Packs
Falling down the mountain isn't what you have to worry about. It's falling and going off a 100 foot cliff.
