Re: New computer, help me decide!
Juan, upgrading as far as RAM or Hard Drive or what?
The answer to all is yes, depending on what machine you are looking at. The all-in-one iMac is easy to upgrade the RAM yourself, but to swap a drive, you'll need to take it to a technician. All that technology crammed into a small space emans some concessions.
The macPro, which is the Prosumer tower is easy to swap drives as well, since it is a tower configuration, not to mention you can install TWO optical drives in em... sweetness! Oh, and did I mention the MacPro has EIGHT-core processors??? Most PCs have just two, with higher end ones having four...

Start here and just compare.
Trust me, if I can run my programs, you should be able to run yours.
For example, the top end iMac comes with a 2.8 Core2Duo, 24" screen, 2 GB of RAM, expandable to 4 GB, 500 GB drive, expandable to 1 TB (yes, TERABYTE) and a ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO with 256MB memory video card.
The MacPro, base suggested model is:
Two 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon (8-core)
2GB (2 x 1GB)
320GB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256MB (Two dual-link DVI)
One 16x SuperDrive
Apple Mighty Mouse
Apple Keyboard (English) + Mac OS X
The video card can be upgraded all the way to a NVIDIA Quadro FX 5600 1.5GB (Stereo 3D, two dual-link DVI)
Go play with the online ordering and see how it all configures....

Here's another option for you guys. These carry the same warranty as NIB models, and you can still opt for the 3 years of AppleCare... Some smokin deals in here, and they always change based on what they have in stock...

Re: New computer, help me decide!
A little heads up for everyone............
We have been having trouble with our home computer, and it was constantly setting the alerts off for over heating. I decided to tear into it yesterday, and let me tell you something. If you think you clean the cooling fans off with the little compressed air dusters.....you're wrong!
I pulled the whole case apart, and broke it all down to find that the heatsink and cooling fan inside were PACKED with dust, and it wasn't allowing the processor to stay cool. It had been running around 170-180degrees in the processor zone, and after washing everything down, vacuuming the inside, and getting it all back together, it's running at a cool 104degrees!
So do yourself a favor and clean those PC guts out, it will most likely save you some big money. I could have easily just let it keep running hot, and fried the processor, but now, she's running cool!
Clean those heat sinks and fans, a little preventative maintenance tip from Nubby!

Once you use a 24" glossy iMac screen, everything else just seems lame

That's a weak video card on the low-end machine, I could live with the 250gb hard drive, but the memory would need to be upgraded to at LEAST 2GB.
Both come with the 24" glossy?

Re: New computer, help me decide!
The low-end is a 20". And yes, the video card is a little weak, but since these machines are so efficient, trust me, you wouldn't notice it. Remember, you're comparing to PCs which need better cards in order to work properly. This isn't a hard-core gamer setup, either. Apple tends to build to a price point, so that means trade-offs.
Like I said, check out the apple site and see what they offer now that they've upgraded their lineup.
