You guys suck
All right you bastards, I got home last night from doing some scouting and my laptop decided to dump windows on it. A few minutes after that I get a call from Noel and I had him send me an e-mail to my cell phone to help him out. Well needless to say I couldn't not have a laptop to talk to you all so today I went down to Circuit city and bought a new one. Now I can talk to you all again and it only costed me 1,200 bucks. I hope you all are happy.

Yeah, that's funny!!
I talked with Lee right after his computer puked! Man, that would suck.
I guess you didn't NEED the $1,200 model. Toshiba's a re on sale right now for $500!

I've always wondered why a MAC is better than other MS or Windows based computers. Is it because they aren't hacked as easy, or that they are bullet-proof for viruses? Just curious.

I just get tired of ALL the MS and Windows BS. It's a never-ending "upgrade", "new version" Blah, blah, blah. Mac definitely has a devoted following. I also know that MAC's DO NOT have the virus problems that windows does..........HHHMMMM, Insert Bill Gates conspiracy theory here!

I tend to be a person that believes almost everything is a conspiracy theory, and just add Microsoft corp. to that list.
I also believe that computer mfgrs. build computers to last only a certain amount of time to last before the warranty is up. a prime example is my old destop. 2 year warranty parts labor the whole shebang. Damn thing crashed like 2 years and a month.
Has went down 4 times since.
On the other hand my laptop has a 3 year warranty and has yet to crash. Acts kinda screwy sometimes but the dang thing wont go down. I still have another year or so on this warranty...I dont expect to see it go down for at least another 30 or so days after the warranty expires.
Macs dont get viruses because there are less of them...making them harder to hack is my understanding,.

Re: You guys suck
my understandin ig macs are somewhat less susceptible to viruses, the other thing is since they're only 10% of the computer share, if you wanted to write a virus to screw as many folks as possible, you'd never bother with mac's OS.
I am just used to windows, and prefer it because of years and years of use, but I'll still admit Mac's systems are better, their marketing just always sucked--basically they SHOULD have been number one, first out of the gate with a windows-ish format and it's more solid than windows, only mismanagement left them to take second.......

AGreed, Mark. They made some mistakes by trying to take their computer lines too many different directions. They have repaired that, to where now if you want a Pro-Level tower, you get a Mac Pro. Want a Pro level Laptop? macBook pro. Otherwise it's MacBook or iMac. Simple. Every try to buy a Dell online? It takes like 30 minutes? I can order a Mac online in 5.
Less viruses are written for Macs, true, but it's also how secure the system itself is. Simply put,t hey code in better protection than Windows has. It's also Unix-based, which is VERY robust.
Another plus is that you can get all the programs you'll need loaded on the machine when you get it. Things like video and photo editing and management software come on the machine straight from the factory in the form if iMovie, iDVD (DVD authoring) iPhoto, iWeb, etc etc. Windows now with the latest iteration of Windows has some of those same functions, but not all of them, and not executed as well as Macs do it.
Bottom line is, a lot of people argue that Macs are more expensive, but to upgrade a PC to the same level as a Mac, you'll end up spending about the same as you do on the Mac, and still have an inferior (and yet, more expensive) OS running on the machine. Look at this way, is a Chevy better than a Cadillac because it's cheaper?

True, but my Dell for example cost about a $1300. If I wanted to buy one of apples laptops they are like $2500 right?
With this money I also got a three year warranty, the whole shebang if it breaks its replaced. not sure how apples warranty stacks up but this thing has lasted me two years and some change already. I could buy two dells in 6 years for the same money of one ibook?
Plus I couldnt afford one of those ibooks at once. Thats a lot of beans!

Brad, it depends on what the specs are on your machine. Tell me what you have and I can tell you what a comparable Mac would run.

Re: You guys suck
I'd be willing to try a MAC, I KNOW they are better, and more bullet-proof. The only problem I have is dumping the coin out for one. Computers change so fast, I'm somewhat happy with a 2-3yr disposable one, since that's about the time it takes before it's considered Commodore64-ish!

I guess I really dont NEED all that photo stuff. I can do about anything and everything that I want to from this machine. i dont do gaming either so I dont need a real super high speed machine.
This computer direct from the CP;
Dell Inspiron 6000
Intel Pentium R M
processor 2.00GHz
1.99 GHz, 504 MB of RAM

Re: You guys suck
my 5 year old dell is dying. If I plug it into a monitor it is okay but either of the screens have issues. probably not worth fixing. On the other hand I can continue to work off this iBook G4 from school.
The real problem I have is going back and forth between the two platforms. Even with WordMac on this one it loses formatting on some programs.

Sounds like a SMOKIN' Lil' Laptop man!
Now Compared to a, let's say, Toshiba 15.4 Tru-Brite Screen, 1GB DDRs SD RAM, 100GB Hard Drive, Dual Layer DVD/CD Read Writer, and Built in Wireless for $489. I'd think I'd still buy the Toshiba laptop, because in two years I could pass it off to the kids, and upgrade again. Not that it's a better computer, just cheaper and still effective. I like to catch a good deal when they come around, and MAC doesn't seem to have too many specials ever going on.
